"Mother Tongue" is a solo about memory, the erosion and reconstruction of ancient structures and personal narratives. Stronach was born to a British father and Israeli mother digging in Iran at Tepe Nush-I Jan. Persian was her mother tongue but fell into disuse when the family fled during the revolution of 1979. In this dance Tami takes super 8 film footage and field recordings from her parents' excavation in order to create a landscape that is both alien and familiar. In "Mother Tongue" Stronach considers what experiences are stored in the body--deep below conscious memory and language--in the bones and dust of who we are.
Choreographed by Tami Stronach performed by Lindsey Dietz Marchant
Also on the program an excerpt from "Pinchas the Fish People and the Great Flood": Dancers, actors, and puppets spin "Noah's Ark" by focusing on a few lost souls, left off the boat. The excerpted portion is of a comic solo that references the Pandora's box fable. What is in the mystery trunk and what could really go wrong if I take a peak?
Choreographed by Tami Stronach and performed by Isadora Wolf
